"I am a drum teacher for children with special needs. I successfully apply music and sound therapy to people with add, adhd, and autism spectrum disorders.
Unfortunately, children who are different from the vast majority are often not accepted because they cannot pick up the pace and/or their behavior is found inappropriate and, in my opinion, the way diagnoses are communicated by doctors make their situation harder, even though they need acceptance.
Drumming for non-average kids is a bit like getting out of their own little world for a shorter or longer time period by completing a task. The more often this breaking away happens, the sooner they will be able to flow, which is beneficial in today's overstimulated world. It requires a lot of concentration and coordination, but because it is a playful activity and makes interesting sounds, it is a great experience especially when it comes to music."
